I recently created a store for my artwork on Etsy.
Edit: my Etsy store no longer exists.
I’d been meaning to do it for some time but things just always got in the way. Things like paid work and promoting books, so not exactly dreadful things.
Etsy is a neat tool for getting your work out there and extremely simple to use. This is vital for me. I don’t ever want to feel like I’m fighting something just to achieve what I perceive as a simple task. The same can be said for how I produce my artwork.
I use three pieces of software to create my finished work. Photoshop will always feature as it’s something I’m completely comfortable with for manipulating images; size, colour, levels and the general balance and positioning of things.
To draw I’m a huge fan of Corel’s Painter. With the dream combination of Wacom’s Cintiq 22HD Touch and the iMac’s power, digital sketching is smooth and a true pleasure. A lot of my digital work is created using this combination.
In the last 12 months or so I’ve used Mischief a fair bit. This software probably doesn’t need any introduction to the digital artist. It’s lightweight, powerful and extremely smooth to use. I’m enjoying doing my exploritary work with Mischief in terms of identifying simple subjects and quickly rendering them. Out in the field (or local cafe) I use Wacom’s mobile hardware; the Cintiq Companion. I use Mischief on here to sketch and have recently been getting some superb results.
I do of course also use the traditional media of pen, pencil and sketchbook.
The work that I have produced for Etsy ranges in style from simple line drawing to full-colour artwork. Don’t be fooled by the simple looking nature of some of those pieces. They may well be the tenth iteration of something and the other 9 are in the trash of my hard drive : )
All prints are produced on high quality Hahnemuhle fine art paper and mounted on ice white at 10″x12″.
